Crucifix Arm Bar

By Burton Richardson

This is a very advanced jiu jitsu move, but it very applicable in MMA. Begin in the crucifix position where you trap the opponent’s arm with your legs. This usually happens when he is on all-fours where it is easier to hook his arm with your leg.

Isolating his arm with your legs means that you have two arms to finish the choke and he only has one hand to defend with. But sometimes a tough opponent will keep his chin down so tight that you can’t get the choke. Tumble so you are both facing up. Keeping tight, slide your top leg down towards his forearm then lift your hips to finish the arm bar. It takes years of practice, but if it comes up in a match, you will finish the fight!
