Omoplata Toe Hold

By Burton Richardson

This may look like a super fancy move, but it has been used to tap out one of the toughest fighters ever to enter the octagon.

As soon as you achieve the omoplata position (where your leg is applying a bent arm lock on the opponent’s arm) grab his leg and slide your hips away to keep him from tumbling out of the omoplata. Reach back to his near foot and position your hands in the figure 4 toe hold position. It is the same hand configuration as a Kimura, but done on the foot. Apply torque to bend his foot back and away from its natural position. Practice well and you may be able to pull this off just as Frank Mir did against Tank Abbot back in UFC 41!
