Dustin Kensrue (of Thrice) Live
For the last decade and a half Dustin Kensrue, the now worship pastor at Mars Hill Bellevue, was the front man for the alternative rock band Thrice. Kensrue felt it was important to write honestly and engagingly, and the things that generally interested him were the bigger issues of life and death, faith and doubt, love and loss. Soul To Soul #1
Anna’s hosts Soul to Soul #1 featuring the notorious roots ska and reggae DJ crew Pressure Down SoundSystem and big, bold and classy JD’s Rock and Soul Band. Keiki Courtyard Cinema
Ward Village screens “My Neighbor Totoro,” a popular Japanese children’s anime movie, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The film will be shown in English, dubbed by Dakota and Ellie Fanning. The free event still requires tickets, which be purchase online. The event also will feature food vendors, complimentary seating, popcorn, and themed family activities, provided by Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center. Hawaii Belly Dance Convention
The convention kicks off with a Shimmy Showcase Gala at Honolulu Museum of Art’s Doris Duke Theatre. The Shimmy Showcase is an opportunity for convention participants to see their teachers in action, and for everyone to appreciate the enchanting art of Middle Eastern dance. Bone Thugs N Harmony Live
BAMP Project presents Bone Thugs N Harmony performing live at The Republik. Graced with a quick and sometimes sung delivery, along with a unique sense of melody, hip-hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony burst out of Cleveland, Ohio in the mid-’90s with a pair of massive hits (“Thuggish Ruggish Bone” and “Tha Crossroads”) along with a great first album.
