CONTACT 2016
Now in its third year, CONTACT 2016 was originally presented at the Honolulu Museum of Art School in April and May 2016 and is now being reinterpreted in a smaller exhibition at The ARTS at Marks Garage. It will be on display until Aug. 27. This year’s theme was Foreign and Familiar, exploring themes of cultural exchange and migratory movements, in and out of Hawaii, not attached to any particular time period in Hawaiiʻs history. John Cruz Live

The Urchinz, The Waves and Spooky Couch Live
86 Productions and DJ Jet Boy present rock reggae act The Urchinz, The Waves and Spooky Couch (with members of Sing the Body) live at Downbeat Lounge. Duke’s OceanFest 2016
Waikiki’s premier ocean sports festival, Duke’s OceanFest 2016, makes a splash this year from Aug. 20 to 28 with ocean and beachside activities at venues throughout Waikiki. An Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Keiki Sand Volleyball Tournament takes place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 20; the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts SUP PaddleFest takes place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 21; and the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Sand Volleyball Pro-Am takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 23. KAYZO Live
Electric Palms Hawaii presents KAYZO performing live at The Republik. Kayzo saw his break in 2012 when he was selected as the winner of Insomniac’s ‘Discovery Project’ Challenge with a mind-blowing mix featuring every genre under the sun. Kayzo quickly became recognized as the artist to watch in 2014 and he continues to gain support from DJs and fans, leaving them wanting more tracks and awe-inspring, energy-filled live performances. Summer Concert Series
Hawai’i Kai Towne Center’s 12th Annual Summer Concert Series returns for one last “hana hou” with Raiatea Helm. Concertgoers will want to arrive early to take advantage of table stations by various Hawai’i Kai Towne Center merchants in the breezeway near the Waterfront Stage. OTS’ Academy of Improv: Villainy Workshop

Animal Collective Live 
BAMP Project presents Animal Collective performing live at The Republik. At the beginning there were two of them – Avey Tare and Panda Bear – banging drums and tweaking synths in their bedrooms, singing strange and sometimes heartbreaking songs about imaginary friends and childhood pets. Carried along by washes of squalling feedback, the music was noisy, and it was weird, but it was, at heart, pop music. The Struts Live
BAMP Project presents The Struts performing live at The Republik. Before even releasing their first album, U.K.-bred four-piece The Struts opened for The Rolling Stones in front of a crowd of 80,000 in Paris, got hand-picked by Mötley Crüe to serve as the supporting act for their four last-ever performances, and toured the U.S. on a string of sold-out shows that demanded the band move up to bigger venues to accommodate their fast-growing fanbase. Silverstein & Beartooth Live
