Rousey ends silence with ‘rock bottom’ Instagram post

By The Associated Press

Former UFC champ Ronda Rousey is turning to “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling for inspiration more than a week after getting humiliated in a comeback match against Amanda Nunes.

The Dec. 30, 2016 fight at UFC 207 was halted just 48 seconds in after Rousey was pummeled by Nunes. Rousey didn’t talk to reporters afterward.

Earlier this week, Rousey posted the following quote from Rowling on Instagram: “And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”

Rousey’s matchup with Nunes was her first fight since losing the UFC women’s bantamweight title to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in 2015.

French MMA fighter to challenge ban under new regulations

PARIS (AP) — Former mixed martial arts champion Gael Grimaud is taking legal action against a ban hitting the sport in France.

Grimaud, the CWFC welterweight champion in 2012, said he will challenge new combat sports guidelines recently pushed forward by France’s sports ministry stipulating that fighters can’t be hit while on the ground.

The new decree also states that fights need to be organized in a ring with no mention of MMA cages.

Grimaud said the new regulations aimed at improving security are in reality imposing a blanket ban on MMA.
