For the uninformed, the fourth generation Supra is considered an icon of import tuning.  The car is known for its 2JZ-GTE engine, which is capable of near 600HP in stock form while extremely modified examples can run 1000+HP.  It is truly a legend…an almost mythical beast of the import tuning world.

Christopher Calimlim has been surrounded by Toyota Supras since he was a young age.  Three of his uncles owned Supras including two MKII Celica/Supras and on MKIII Supra.  The release of the 2001 movie, The Fast and the Furious, added even more fuel to the fire…cementing the want and the need to own one in Chris’ head.

While serving in the HIANG, Chris became financially able to purchase the car of his dreams…a 2008 Toyota Supra Mark IV painted Renaissance Red.  Featuring twin turbos pushing out 320HP, even at stock level the US Spec version is no slouch when it comes to power. Initially, he was satisfied with the performance until he began to see other builds from fellow Supra owners.

With the urge to splurge, Chris began with the purchase of a Greddy front mount intercooler to provide additional breathing room.  Chris enjoyed the drivability of the sequential twins but their eventual breakage opened up the opportunity to go single turbo. Soon came a Boost Logic Stage 2 Turbo kit that included a 6757  Precision Turbo, 4″ aluminum intake pipe with K&N filter, Unorthodox Racing cam gears, and a Titan Motorsport crank pulley.

Additional engine modifications include a TiAL MV-R 44mm V-Band external wastegate, 4″ stainless still down and midpipes, braided oil feed and return kit amongst many other goodies.  With a Power House Racing MAP ECU 3, Sean from Munky Wurks Garage was able to eke out 465HP with 375TQ to the wheels.

Satisfied with the power while on the trackless island of Oahu, he decided to look into other modifications.  He installed a replica Top Secret kit, known from the infamous Smokey Nagata of Japan tuning fame.  Ridox rear spats are added for flare with a RMM wing with a tasty carbon fiber center.  HID headlights and fog lights round out the exterior package.

The interior features Sparco Torino racing seats and harness bar as well as a Power House racing shifter.  A set of AEM gauges monitor boost, air, and fuel and a Greddy Turbo Timer cools down the turbo after spirited runs.

This Supra rides on Megan Street Series Coil-overs with Volk GT-C wheels set at 19×9.5 front with 19×10.5 rear.  Falken 452s cover the steel with 245/35/19 front and 275/35/19 rear fitment.  Brakes include reconditioned Supra calipers with StopTech slotted front and rear rotors.

Chris is far from done with his car…he intends to continue building it further while enjoying it every day along with his fellow Team SMG members.   “These cars are from another era…most kids now-a-days don’t see them.  That’s why I daily drive it.  I encourage builders to follow their dreams.” says Chris.
